On May 20, Oasys announced that Captain Tsubasa, the beloved 80s manga and anime by Yōichi Takahashi, is now available as an NFT soccer game on their Web3 gaming blockchain.

Developed by Mint Town and Blocksmith, the game was first unveiled in 2022 and officially launched on Jan. 12, 2023.

The governance token for the project was released on June 4, 2023.

Players can collect NFTs of their favorite characters, build teams, and enjoy various game modes.

Rival mode lets players relive the original storyline, while PvP mode offers online competition.

Arena mode features 11 versus 11 matches for a full soccer experience.

Mint Town CEO Hiroshi Kunimitsu stated that integrating with the Oasys blockchain gives fans “a new way” to enjoy the animated story, highlighting blockchain technology’s role in enhancing interactive entertainment.

First published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1981 and adapted into an anime in 1983, the series has had numerous adaptations, with the latest in 2018.

By 2023, Captain Tsubasa had sold 90 million copies worldwide, solidifying its status as one of the best-selling manga series ever.
